Why this becomes a problem

When the value question spans multiple domains, a narrow assessment can produce a locally correct answer to the wrong problem. Decisions can be shaped by the loudest hypothesis, the easiest data to access or the most visible operational symptom rather than by a sufficiently complete view of the organisation.

Executives need a basis for distinguishing evidence from assumption, understanding material opportunities and constraints, seeing uncertainty clearly and deciding where intervention is justified.

  1. 01

When VOR is the right fit

A Value Optimisation Review is appropriate when the executive question is materially broader than a bounded operational intervention and requires cross-domain organisational understanding before priorities or recommendations can be established responsibly.

The Review can examine strategic, organisational, operational, process, technology, governance, performance, change, Digital Adoption and value-realisation conditions according to the agreed engagement scope. The depth and emphasis are proportionate to the client question rather than a requirement to investigate every possible domain equally.

  2. 02

    What DAA does

DAA begins by understanding the client’s objectives and the question the Review needs to answer. We then conduct structured discovery with relevant stakeholders and available evidence, validate the emerging understanding, identify material gaps or contradictions and determine when the evidence is sufficient to support assessment.

Validated evidence is then used to identify opportunities, constraints, risks, strengths and value-improvement potential. Recommendations are developed only when supported by an appropriate evidence base, with assumptions, limitations and uncertainty kept visible.

The client remains actively involved throughout the Review. DAA’s role is to develop defensible executive understanding and decision support, not to replace client judgement.

  3. 03

    What the client gets

An evidence-based view of the relevant enterprise environment and the factors affecting value.

A clear executive assessment of material strengths, constraints, risks and value-optimisation opportunities within the agreed scope.

Prioritised recommendations and decision considerations that are traceable to the evidence available.

Visibility of assumptions, unresolved questions, confidence and evidence limitations rather than false certainty.

An executive close-out that communicates the findings, recommendations and agreed next steps clearly enough for the client to determine appropriate future action.

Where value measurement is in scope, the Review can also establish the outcomes, evidence sources, measures, ownership and decision use required for a defensible measurement framework rather than simply accepting available platform metrics as value.

  1. 01

    Who is typically involved

A VOR is governed through an accountable engagement lead, a lead consulting role, relevant subject-matter specialists and independent quality review before executive outputs are released. The exact team is determined by the scope and client context rather than by a fixed public roster.

    Related routes

A bounded DAA intervention may be more proportionate where the issue can be isolated clearly.

Value Assurance Office is the separate approved route where continuing value assurance and governance is required and separately agreed. Completion of a VOR does not depend on a VAO engagement.

DAA Sessions may be appropriate when the executive question first needs focused challenge before a broader Review is justified.
